In response to the legislature’s passage of Governor DeSantis’s gerrymandered congressional maps that attack minority voters, the Duval County Democratic Party released the following statement:

JACKSONVILLE, FL — “Today’s passage of Governor DeSantis’s gerrymandered congressional maps makes clear the GOP’s desire to diminish minority voting power, cut the number of minority access districts in half, and ensure Republican dominance in Florida’s congressional seats.

“Communities that have been protected in Congressional District 5’s historic configuration, will have no voice in Congress to represent their values and advocate for federal dollars to cure healthcare disparities, infrastructure deficiencies, and education inequalities.

“At some point, when DeSantis and the GOP continue to attack minority voters, we all must acknowledge their true desire is to erase minority representation. As a party, we stand firmly against this desire and the GOP’s attack.”
