Hello Democrats,

This is a reminder that on Tuesday, December 1st, 2020 at 6:30pm the Duval County DEC will hold its Re-Organization Meeting. Due to COVID-19, the Re-Organization Meeting will be conducted virtually, and all voting will be by electronic ballot.

In order to ensure a smooth and efficient voting process, please RSVP and provide your cell phone and email address via Mobilize confirmation page

Whether you are a returning or new Precinct Committee Person ("PCP"), we know you will have questions about the Reorganization Meeting and the process in which we will be voting. Please read the information below to orient yourself:

  1. Method of Meeting: We will be meeting via Zoom due to COVID-19. All PCPs will be sent an email with the ZOOM details to login into the meeting. The  Duval DEC Rules of Procedure for Virtual Meeting will be enforced: (click here).
  2. Method of Voting: Voting will take place via electronic ballot. Each member will receive an individualized text message during each voting period to vote for their choice of candidate. Members will also have the option to vote via the Zoom chat function or by email.
    • The Credentials Committee will then tabulate the votes, audit the results, and provide them to the Chair for the announcement of the winner.
  3. Eligible Voters: All Duval County PCPs either elected automatically at qualifying, on the August Primary ballot or are PCPs by virtue of their elected position are eligible to vote at the Re-Organization meeting.
  4. Officers up for Election: Each PCP will be voting on the DEC's six officer positions: DEC Chair, State Committeewoman, State Committeeman, First Vice Chair, Treasurer.
  5. Candidate Bios: Review all officer candidate bios and statements by clicking here. Each candidate has provided their email address, so please feel free to contact them with any questions. Nominations may also be taken from the floor.
  6. District Chair Elections: All elected PCPs in each of the 14 City Council Districts will be moved into Zoom breakout rooms for 10-15 minutes to caucus amongst themselves, and discuss who will be running for District Chair and/or District Representative. Once the caucus is complete, voting will occur via electronic ballot once everyone returns from their breakout rooms.
    • District Chairs are responsible for organizing the PCPs in their district, meeting GOTV metrics, and may sit on the Central Committee. Their position on the Central Committee may be delegated to a District Representative if a District chooses to elect one.
  7. Email Communications: All Duval Dems emails are sent via the MailChimp platform. Please check your spam folder if you are not getting email updates or email info@duvaldems.org to update your email address.

We hope this meeting goes smoothly, but there may be tech issues or delays. We ask for your patience as we proceed through the meeting. If you have any questions about the Re-Organization Meeting, please contact Velma Rounsville, our current Credentials Committee Chair (vrounsville@gmail.com).
