Nekinia was elected the First Vice Chair of the party in December 2022, becoming the first black woman to be elected to the position for a full term and the first of Caribbean descent/heritage. She is a legal professional, a dedicated party volunteer, and the daughter of a military veteran.
Prior to being elected First Vice Chair, Nekinia served as District Chair for Council District 11. In that role she worked hard to bring Precinct Committee Members and volunteers together to engage with Democratic voters. Her efforts culiminated in resounding successes, helping flip Southeast Jacksonville blue for President Joe Biden. In addition to her organizing role, Nekinia serves as the Co-Chair of the Communications Committee. Where she works to expand the party’s reach to Democratic voters. Her successes include helping start the state’s first party run Podcast, and expanding the party’s social media presence.
Early in her political career, Nekinia was able to get her feet wet by interning for a local Sheriff’s race in Virginia. Serving as a campaign blogger and volunteer coordinator. In addition to her campaign work, she interned in a congressional office in Virginia Beach and was responsible for monitoring legislative bills and aiding constituents with issues plaguing the community.
Nekinia hold a Juris Doctorate Degree from Florida Coastal School of Law, Masters in Government from Regent University, and Bachelors in Criminal Justice from Bethune-Cookman University.
