JACKSONVILLE, FL — Tonight, the Jacksonville City Council voted to approve a reckless ⅛ millage cut — putting political ambition ahead of the people of Jacksonville.

This cut was never about fiscal responsibility. It was about giving certain councilmembers a convenient campaign talking point — a hollow boast of a so-called “tax cut” — while glossing over the truth. The average homeowner will save only a dollar or two each month, yet the city will now lose millions that fund life-changing services. That means seniors, children, and working families will pay the real price — sacrificed on the altar of political ambition so politicians can pad their next campaign speech.

“This vote was never about helping taxpayers,” said Daniel Henry, Chair of the Duval County Democratic Party. “It was about slashing vital city services in exchange for a half-baked talking point. Jacksonville deserves leaders who invest in our future, not politicians who gamble with people’s lives for their own campaign gain.”
