Healthcare



Duval County Democrats believe that health care is a human right, not a privilege. We believe affordable, high-quality health care is part of the American promise, that everyone should have the security that comes with good health care, and that no one should go broke because they get sick.

 

Duval Democrats advocate for the expansion of the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid. We believe high-quality healthcare should be available to all Duval residents, regardless of economic status.

 

To build a healthy future for all of Duval County, Duval Democrats will:

  • Advocate for expanded Medicaid and increasing access to health care for high risk and economically distressed populations;
    Support access to high quality pre-and neonatal care for mothers and children, including nutrition services, postpartum care, and decrease infant mortality in our local hospitals;
  • Expand mental health resources and counseling for all ages, including substance abuse prevention and counseling;
  • Support full access to healthy food, through the elimination of food deserts;
    Provide for access to affordable and accessible health insurance through the expansion of healthcare exchanges;
  • Increase access to safe wrap-around services for women and the LGBTQ+ youth;
  • Advocate for the preservation of women’s reproductive rights and the protection of their bodily autonomy;
  • Support the destigmatization of adoption and “nontraditional” families.
