Education

Duval County Democrats believe in a universally well-educated population. To achieve this, we are committed to providing high-quality education from pre-K through K-12, that will prepare the next generation to live, work, and thrive in a multicultural, multilingual, and highly connected world.

We recognize that teachers have a vital role in educating the next generation, and we support measures that ensure they are rewarded for taking on this responsibility. We must provide opportunities for postsecondary education and/or career technical education, which prepares our students for a 21st-century economy. While also inspiring future innovation to build on transformative ideas. To protect and advance these fundamental rights, Duval Democrats support fully funded public schools, increased per-pupil funding, equitable distribution of capital infrastructure dollars, and stronger local control.

To help educate Duval’s young leaders and to prepare them to compete for challenging jobs, Duval Democrats will:

  • Support the full implementation of the ½ cent sales tax estimated to collect over $1.9B over 15 years for school construction and infrastructure improvements;
  • Support updated, modern, well-funded school facilities for our children, including in early childhood education;
  • Advocate for curriculums that give equitable histories of all peoples;
  • Ensure equitable access to resources for all students and modern educational technologies;
  • Universal access to broadband internet for all students;
  • Advocate for investment into adhering to class size amendment standards and providing a better learning environment;
  • Provide accountability for charter and private schools who receive tax-payer dollars, equalizing the playing field, and provide for transparency in funding and outcomes;
  • Building curriculum in schools that support teachers, aiding students to lean into their best selves.
