JACKSONVILLE, FL — Recent reporting exposed that JAX Chamber CEO Daniel Davis is making backroom deals to ensure he continues to receive his taxpayer-subsidized $536k salary while running for mayor AND is guaranteed the position if he loses his bid.
In response, Duval County Democratic Party Chair Daniel Henry released the following statement:
“This report raises serious questions that the JAX Chamber, a nonprofit supported by the city, is using taxpayer dollars to prop up Daniel Davis’s candidacy for Mayor. Jacksonville City Council must demand a full and transparent accounting of the Chamber’s $750k funding request in the 2022-2023 budget. Which of note is nearly double its previous yearly requests. Duval County taxpayers deserve to know they’re not subsidizing a mayoral candidate’s six-figure salary.
“This kind of self-dealing is exactly what we’ve come to expect from GOP candidates, and it’s why Jacksonville is ready for change. There is nothing more calculating and uninspiring than a candidate who makes plans for their campaign’s defeat before it starts. The good news is that Daniel Davis is already showing voters his true colors. It’s Daniel first, 100% of the time. His next payday will always come before the needs of the hardworking taxpayers of Jacksonville.”
