Dr. David Jaffee, a widely published professor of sociology, anthropology and social work at the University of North Florida, will provide a critical and non-partisan commentary on the state of American politics.
Jaffee is a frequent contributor to academic publications as well as local media on a wide range of subjects. His perspectives are unique for the mix of economic/political sociology. Most notable in recent years is his work on Jacksonville port deepening that looked at various aspects and implications of Jaxport expansion. Among the courses the former International Fulbright Scholar will be teaching in fall semester is Political Sociology. His classes focus on social change/international development, organizations, social statistics and economic sociology.
Title of Jaffee's presentation for the Beaches Democratic Club is "American Politics Unleashed." He describes it as "a critical but non-partisan socio-economic commentary and perspective of the state of American politics, with emphasis on the rise of presidential contenders Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders, the failure of the two-party system, and the bipartisan, non-acknowledgement of the structural features of American-style capitalism that promise continuing economic stagnation and inequality." A questions session will following his talk.
