Billee Bussard has been a dedicated Democratic Party activist since 2003, following a 25-year career as a Jacksonville journalist. Her investigative reporting exposed the influence of Koch family money on state government and North Florida politicians, and she made national headlines in 1964 with an exclusive interview with the Beatles as a cub reporter for the Jacksonville Journal. Her eight years as an editorial page writer for the then far-right Florida Times-Union (1992–2000) deepened her understanding of political dynamics and inspired her commitment to the Democratic Party.
Billee’s contributions to the party are extensive. She served as President of the Beaches Democratic Club and Communications Director for the Duval County Democratic Executive Committee (DEC) under Chair Travis Bridges. From 2017–2018, she chaired the Campaign Committee for DEC Chairs Audrey Gibson and Lisa King before stepping up as an eleventh-hour candidate for the Florida Senate to ensure Democratic representation in every state legislative race in Duval County.
In 2017, Billee was one of four women who organized Jacksonville’s Women’s March in just two weeks, drawing a crowd of 4,000 participants. Most recently, she served as a key advisor to Rachel Grage in her campaign to unseat a State House incumbent. In December 2024, Billee was elected Secretary of the Duval County DEC, where she continues her commitment to strengthening Democratic values and leadership in North Florida.
